3. Health and Safety

3.1 Company Health & Safety Policy Statement

This section refers to the enclosed Company Health & Safety Policy Statement.

3.2 Company Health & Safety Management Structure

  • Managing Director: Overall responsibility for health and safety.
  • Compliance Manager: Regular site inspections, reporting to the Managing Director.
  • Area Managers: Day-to-day health & safety management responsibility.

3.3 Procedures for Communicating Health & Safety Information

  • The Health & Safety Plan will be issued to the Site Supervisor before work commences.
  • An induction meeting will be conducted to ensure all operatives understand health and safety practices.
  • Ongoing inductions and toolbox talks will be provided as necessary.

3.4 Emergency Procedures

  • Emergency contact numbers and procedures will be displayed on-site.
  • All operatives will be informed during the induction process.

3.5 Monitoring Health and Safety Standards

  • Regular inspections will be carried out by the Health and Safety Advisor.
  • Non-conformance will result in corrective action or removal from the site if necessary.

3.6 Unplanned Events

Incidents or enforcement actions will be reported immediately to the client and the Health and Safety Advisor.

3.7 The Health & Safety File

  • Relevant documentation will be handed over at the end of the project.
  • Alterations will be recorded and incorporated into the Health & Safety File.

4. Method Statements and Risk Assessments

4.2 Method Statements

Method statements addressing significant hazards will be prepared before starting operations.

4.3 Risk Assessments

Risk assessments will be prepared, and subcontractors will provide method statements before commencing work.


5. Specific Health and Safety Measures

5.1 Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

  • COSHH assessments will be prepared for all hazardous materials.
  • Subcontractors must submit COSHH assessments for approval.

5.2 Lifting/Manual Handling

Risk assessments for manual handling will be conducted, and appropriate training will be provided.

5.3 Storage of Materials

Designated areas will be set aside for the storage of materials.


6. Welfare Facilities

6.1 Welfare facilities will include:

  • Heated and ventilated mess rooms
  • Hot water supply for hand washing
  • Toilet and hand washing facilities
  • First aid facilities and an accident book

6.2 Fire and Explosion

  • Fire risk assessments will be conducted before work begins.
  • Operatives will be informed of fire procedures during induction.

Subcontractors must submit health & safety policies, risk assessments, and method statements before starting work.

A checklist will be completed before subcontractors begin work on-site.
